Inside Soul-Searching

Hello From the Other Side

I’ve been deliberating over starting a new blog for weeks. You see despite convincing myself otherwise, after 4 years of putting finger to keyboard, I’ve realised one thing: once a blogger, always a blogger.

I started over-sharing tapping away back in 2012, when I launched my family lifestyle blog – 3 Children and It. Although I do intend to keep it and will post from time to time, recent events have caused me to consider the longevity of that particular outlet. Thus my new blog was born.

Here I am, just me with my very own space to write whatever takes my fancy. I feel like the new girl at school with a brand new pencil case, shiny shoes and a completely unspoilt note pad. Remember trying to craft your very best handwriting ever? I feel a little bit like that too – no pressure then!

One thing I have promised myself, is that this space won’t be to please anyone other than me. Sounds selfish? Let me explain…

It’s easy as a blogger to get caught up in the numbers…of followers, page views and ‘likes’. My original reason for blogging was to scratch a writing itch that had been niggling away for some time. What I’ve realised over the summer, is that the itch is still there and unless I scratch it, I become increasingly uncomfortable.

What can you expect to find here on my new blog?

I have so many loves, interests and passions and what you’ll learn about me is that I’m a highly enthusiastic ‘starter’ but not so great at ‘finishing’. In the past, I have described myself as a kickaholic and whilst this aspect of my personality irritates my husband no end, I’m learning that this is part of me, so why not embrace it? The likelihood is, that I will share some of my new ‘kicks’ with you.

Homes and Interiors magazines have been a long-held guilty pleasure of mine. Instead of just flicking through the pages and drooling over other people’s stunning abodes, I’m intending to spend some time falling in love with my home again…the home that has been somewhat neglected over the past ten ‘sticky’ years of life with primary school children. We have a few projects up our sleeve and I will enjoy sharing those as they evolve.

And there will of course be some amusing stories to tell (one of my greatest passions) and even the odd film or book review. As I have a fear of turning into ‘frumpy mum’ I shall no doubt be sharing some of my latest fashion finds and asking for your expert opinion. In all honesty, I could desperately do with a wardrobe overhaul. Just don’t tell the husband, ok?

In short, it’s likely to be ‘a little bit of everything’. I’ve deliberately chosen a title that will allow me to incorporate everything from what’s ‘Inside’ my head, to what the ‘Outside’ me looks like and what there is to discover ‘Beyond’ our four walls.

Hopefully you’ll join me.

I’m older, and further on with my children’s journeys through life – one very much living her own life, the other now on a gap year in the middle of her uni course – but in a similar place, trying to find who I am without the pull and push of family. I’m looking forward to comparing notes!

It’s a strange place to be isn’t it Mary? Just about rethinking everything and giving yourself permission to indulge and do things for yourself. Good luck with your journey!

Ha ha yes, all the stickiness needs to be gone! I’m not saying it’s completely gone (we have LOTS of animals, remember!) but it’s definitely less so. Sorry to hear about your move 🙁 House moving is an absolutely pain! x
