New Boots, a Shocking Discovery and Some Favourite Reads #LittleLoves

If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that we spent a very relaxing and fun few days at the Cotswold Water Park last weekend, to celebrate my parents’ golden wedding anniversary. As this picture suggests, we really were spoilt with the weather.

So what about the rest of this week?

The nearer I get to Friday, the more I begin doubting that I will have the time to join in with Little Loves. But I’ve come to enjoy this routine in my week so much, that I just can’t resist! Not only does it help me to appreciate the little gems in my every day life, it ensures that I practice a bit of mindfulness by being in the moment, not rushing past at such a pace that I miss the small joys. Which reminds me, I absolutely WILL read Ruby Wax’s book on Mindfulness whilst on holiday next week!

So here are my Little Loves for this week…

Read

This week I attempted to reconnect with a few blogs that I used to read faithfully but have neglected of late. One of my absolute favourites has always been Does My Bum Look 40 in This. We have a very similar taste in clothes (I aspire to having her budget and she has no idea who I am) and her posts never fail to inspire. As I’ve attempted to replenish my wardrobe (an ongoing pursuit by the way) Kat has been a great help. If you haven’t come across her blog before, please do check it out.

Another post that I came across on Facebook earlier in the week, was written by Kristen from We Are That Family. Goodness it brought a lump to my throat, I could so relate to the content. Parenting is hard sometimes isn’t it? If you’re struggling right now and wondering why all the tension? It’s probably because you’re doing it right. Reading this post felt like I was being enveloped in a much-needed hug. I hope you feel the same.

Watched

I remember watching the last series of the BBC’s Ordinary Lies, wondering how on earth they could recapture its utter brilliance in a new one.

Well somehow they have and it was fab! This new series is just as well-written, brilliantly acted and thought provoking as the last. The gist? We never really know what’s going on behind closed doors. Ain’t that the truth!

Did you watch the first episode this week?

Heard

Between the ages of 7 and 10, my youngest daughter would repeatedly ask me to complete her application for Britain’s Got Talent. Every time the new series graced our screens, I would come up with some rubbish about missing the deadline, as she contemplated her future stardom and another missed opportunity.

Call me a bad mother if you will but I honestly thought that she had very little talent. What kind of parent would subject their child to inevitable rejection, or risk being labelled the pushy parent who is in denial?

Well guess what? Four years later and she’s actually good! She’s been having regular singing lessons and her group of friends will be performing at the school’s Autumn Gala in a few weeks. I’ve enjoyed listening to her practice this week.

Wore

Remember last week when I said that I would be restocking my wardrobe? I *may* have taken things a little too far. Good job I’m off on holiday tomorrow, it will give my credit card a little rest. But it has been my birthday and I was given some money so surely that’s a reason to splash out a little? One of my annual traditions is treating myself to a pair of boots on my birthday. Here are my latest ‘babies’ (did I tell you how much I love shoes?) that I’ve enjoyed airing this week…

Made

Apart from a fool of myself at the gym last night, I actually can’t claim to have made anything at all this week!  I did have this lovely birthday cake made for me by my girls so I’ll share that instead. Very tasty it was too.

And lastly…

We are off on a much needed week in the sun tomorrow. I don’t think I’ve ever looked forward to a holiday so much. Proper rest and relaxation is on the cards so I have three books packed and all the sunscreen I could lay my hands on.  Au revoir friends! Have a great week.

I’m determined to actually give this book the time it deserves. I dipped in and out of it before and never got past the first couple of chapters but I think I really need it in my life. I think we all do! x

  • Have an amazing week! I’m impressed by you buying a new pair of every year. I only buy new shoes when previous pair are full of holes! I’ve recorded Ordinary Lies, but not watched it yet. I really enjoyed the last series though. How lovely of your girls to make you a birthday cake 🙂 x

Oh enjoy your time away how exciting and sunshine. Oh I can’t wait for some for us too next week. Love those boots I must ask as I always do where you get all your boots. Ankle and tall ones. They are lovely and the kind I am looking for. Been to so many shops at the moment and don’t like any. Boo. I will have to check your friend’s blog out I really am trying to get back to commenting as much as I used to. Miss it. Happy weekend ahead #littleloves

These ones were from Zalando Jenny. Love them so much! My ankle boots were from lots of different places. My favourite grey ones are from Clarks and they’re super comfy! I might actually do a little feature on knee-high brown boots because it took me forever to find a pair that I really like and there’s not much out there. x

That cake looks delicious, what a lovely treat! Those boots look lovely, I don’t actually have a good pair yet this year! Enjoy your holiday #LittleLoves

  • Morgana

Those boots are lovely! I always struggle to find knee high boots as I’m short but have massive calves, haha! I just stick to ankle boots.
I enjoy Kat’s blog too. I once sat next to her in a restaurant after Britmums and she is hilarious, lots of fun to be around. I doubt she’d remember me now though!
Have a wonderfully relaxing holiday xx

I have heard so many good things about Ordinary Lies that I must see if I can catch the first series. Your break away at Cotswold Water Park looked lovely Suzanne, and it is somewhere I would love to visit. Also love following your adventures in the sun this week. Just read the post about parenting, and yes struck a chord with me too #littleloves x
