Today’s home owner is Lara Joanna Jarvis from Adventures of a Mum. Lara has been living in her current house for over 20 years; in fact she’s lived here since the tender age of 12. I imagine there has been a fair few makeovers during that time!
You’ll notice quite quickly that Lara is a huge fan of IKEA so if you’re looking for some inspiration with a twist (more on that later) don’t go anywhere. Shall we take a peek at Lara’s home?
Where do you live and who lives in your home?
I live in Hampshire with my 2 sons, Henry and George, husband Stuart, and fluff ball Margaret the cat (Maggie to her friends).
How would you describe your home style?
Ooh, this is a tricky one because I would describe it differently in each room – one might recapitulate it as ‘eclectic’ for that reason, but on the whole I like pretty things with a stylish and bold twist.
What were the first impressions of your home?
I’ve lived here since 1995 so I guess, at the age of 12, I probably wondered where my bedroom was so I could go up there and be moody ?.
Have you had any major work done?
No structural work, but we’ve had a new kitchen recently, and we’ve decorated (several times!) throughout.
What is your favourite room in the house?
It would be between our living room and the dining room at the moment, although sometimes I think it would be pretty cool to sleep in a superheroes room!
Is there anything that you would change in your home if you could?
THE BATHROOM!!! I despise it. I would love to build an extension and have a social kitchen space and make room for a playroom/snug and a utility room (smelly boys sports kits – banished there!)
What is the next home project that we can look forward to seeing on your blog?
We’re looking to change the children’s room soon – they want to share and we are going to get them bunk beds which they can’t wait for!
A little birdie told me that Lara is hoping to move house this year so if you’re looking for a home in Hampshire, this one could be up for grabs. I’m sure that Lara will put her unique stamp on any home; that retro phone took me right back!
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, if you’re an IKEA fan, then you may recognise a few items in Lara’s pictures. You may have also noted that some of them have been expertly upcycled! If that’s your bag then you can check out Lara’s Youtube video dedicated to all things IKEA with some secret tips on how she made the gorgeous gold shelving unit featured in her living room.
Lara is a social media fiend so if you’re not familiar with her Youtube channel then go and check her out. You’ll also find her on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter where she chats all things family, home, fashion and travel.

5 years agoWhat a gorgeous home! So cosy. I love the brick wall by the dining table and those sofas! I too would love a utility room – no more gigantic washing airers taking up space in my kitchen and hallway. Wishing her the best of luck with selling the house. I’m sure it will be snapped up in no time.
