Today’s featured home is one that I’ve been drooling over for many months now. If like me, you’re dreaming of a minimalist family home, this month’s guest proves that it is indeed possible – even with four children!
Xandi used to write a family lifestyle blog, in fact we met for the first time at a Britmums Live conference about 6 years ago. Despite giving up blogging when having her fourth child (who can blame her?!) we stayed in contact via Instagram and a few months ago, I noticed that Xandi had switched to a home and interiors Instagram account. When you see her home, you’ll understand why.
Shall we take a peek?
Where do you live and who lives in your home?
I live with my husband James and our 4 children, three boys and a girl ages 10 down to 2, oh and our delightful Cavapoochon puppy, Cosmo! We live on the Surrey/London border, close enough to venture into the city if we want to but far enough from the hustle and bustle.
How would you describe your home style?
I think I’m quite partial to clean lines and minimalism without it being cold and stark! I love a mix of modern, antique and rustic all thrown into the mix. I think style is such a personal thing and nowhere better to express it than in your own home.
What were the first impressions of your home?
We found our home when our eldest was 2 and our twins were 10 months. We had moved from quite a small terraced house with a tiny garden and wanted more space for our energetic brood.
We were looking for something we could literally walk into and not have any immediate work as our hands were pretty full already! I did have some plans brewing but there was no need for any immediate work. We loved the open plan nature of the house and all the bedrooms are great sizes. Lots of space for the family to grow and feel comfortable.
Have you had any major work done?
Probably the biggest project so far has been our conservatory extension. It has made such a big difference to the living space and how the house flows. We simply love it. We use it as our dining room (kids art room!) and it lets in such fabulous light all year round.
What is your favourite room in the house?
I love every room! But if I had to chose it would be a tie between the conservatory and the kitchen. Both are in constant use and the kitchen especially is the heart of our home.
Is there anything you would change about your home if you could?
I would probably say I’d like a larger master bathroom with his and her sinks!! That and the kids are on a mission for a pool! I think they will have to wait quite a while for that though!
What is your next home project that we can looking forward to seeing on Instagram?
We are looking into extending our front entrance so if that all goes to plan I will definitely be bombarding you with photos of it!
I think Xandi has done a beautiful job of creating a minimalist family home that still looks lived-in and cosy. Anyone else want to move in right now? If you want more home inspiration from Xandi then make sure that you’re following her at My Happy Home Space, on Instagram.
