Best Makeup Products for 40+ Women, Recommended by 40+ Women

make up bag 40+ beauty products

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]y skin changed when I turned 40 (probably a few years before actually, but who’s counting?) and so did my priorities. Above all else, I began to understand the benefit of spending a little more money on the right products.

Where to start?

I think I lost my way a bit with makeup when my children were small. Whilst I’ve never been an advocate for ‘makeup-free days’ I definitely didn’t have time to experiment with new looks or research the latest trend. Now I’m in my 40s, not only do I have a little more disposable income but I’ve got teenage daughters who are keen to ensure their mum isn’t a total 1990s reject!

I recently asked a number of bloggers in their 40s, to recommend beauty products that they absolutely swear by. I had so many amazing products recommended that I wanted to buy them all immediately. I’ll ‘fess up to already purchasing two of the facial moisturisers recommended in my last post.

Today I am concentrating on the best makeup products for post 40 women.

Kat Von D Liquid Tattoo Liner – £16.00

Recommended by Erica Knight from The Incidental Parent.

“This eye liner doesn’t disappear into wrinkles so I can still do a decent wing. Plus it stays in place and it’s animal friendly.”

Kat Von D Tattoo Eye Liner

Rimmel’s Rita Ora Alarm 170 Red Lipstick – £4.99

Recommended by Deborah from Country Heart and Home.

“This lippy is a flattering colour for more mature skin.”

Rita Ora Red Alarm 170 Lipstick

Zoeva Eyeshadow Palette £18.00

Recommended by Lynne from A Day in the Life of a Mum of 6.

“These palettes are super affordable and pigmented. They don’t crease, are really blendable and a little goes a long way so they last.”

Zoeva Caramel Melange Eye shadow palette

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eye Paint – £5.99

Recommended by Emma from Bubbablue and Me.

“A little bit of shimmer for every day (the white or gold) but you can build up the colours for evening and they don’t smudge.”

L'Oreal Eye Paint

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick – £31.00

Recommended by Helen from Actually Mummy .

“For years I was told I needed ‘coverage’ but I hate foundation. This is light and sheer enough that I forget I’m wearing it, but it does smooth out the blemishes.”

Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick – £23.00

Recommended by Steph from Steph’s Two Girls.

“Eyeshadow wise I love the Bobbi Brown sticks especially Goldstone which is sparkly, and Bobbi Brown lipsticks are the only ones that have ever stayed on me!”

Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow stick

Bare Minerals BarePro Liquid Foundation – £29.00

Recommended by Susan K Mann

“Excellent coverage and doesn’t dry out your skin. I love it.”

Bare minerals foundation

Last but not least, Helen from Kiddy Charts recommended good old fashioned water.

Its wonderfully healthy if you drink the right amount a day, great for the skin and for helping to lose weight too; have water instead of snacking!

Have you got an amazing makeup product that you swear by? There’s nothing better than a personal recommendation, so please do share in the comments below.

I have recently noticed that I should probably start wearing make up, now that I’ve reached 40, so this is a very useful post!

Thanks for including my recommendation. Bizarrely my skin is still like a teens getting spots and needing coverage, although it isn’t as greasy as it used to be. I’m a bit of a stick with the old stuff, but I do combine my 2 in 1 foundation/serum with a CC cream – because one’s too thin and the other is too drying on its own.

Really useful post Suzanne, some in here I’m definitely interested to try.

  • Listen I’m 40 next year so I’m going with it!! Cream Eyeshadow Sticks are brilliant and if you’re after a good cheaper version try the ones by Autograph at (M&S), they’re really good!! Also, I second the Bare Minerals foundation, it’s lovely. Love your beauty posts… I am a complete beauty junkie ; ) xxx

Thank you for featuring me. I am so getting that eyeliner. It is incredible how you have to change as your skin changes. x
