Festive Creations, Cosy Knits and the Best Film I’ve Seen All Year #LittleLoves

December sunrise

Anyone know what day it is? I honestly don’t think I’ve had any idea for the last two weeks. I’m still undecided as to whether that means I’m totally relaxed or finally losing it! Answers on a postcard…

I’ve been storing up this month’s Little Loves for some time because it’s been such a busy one. December is hectic, stressful and wonderful all at the same time. We’ve had relatives to stay over Christmas and are expecting more in a few days but for now, we are having a couple of much-needed lazy days. Today was the first day in months when none of us have had to get up for work or school. Bliss.

What have I been loving in December?

Read

I managed to achieve my goal of reading more in 2017. In fact I’ve totalled 13 so far and I’m on the last few chapters of my final book.

I had Davina McCall’s Lessons I’ve Learned on my Christmas list last year but didn’t get it. If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I bought it for myself a couple of weeks ago for the princely sum of £3!

Sadly, I discovered over Christmas that Davina and her husband have recently split up. I’ll be honest, this has kind of left me not wanting to complete the book; I was devouring all of the little ‘gems’ that she shared about her marriage. Since hearing the news, the ‘lessons’ all feel slightly farcical, although I’m sure they were all very true a year ago.

I don’t know Davina (obviously) but I always feel sad when a celebrity couple who I’ve admired from a distance, go their separate ways and this pair seemed like such a great team.

Heard

In response to Nat‘s request last month, I’ve shunted ‘heard’ higher up the list because she likes to have some background music whilst reading my Little Loves post!

December wouldn’t be right without an abundance of Christmas music. My daughter introduced me to Sia’s Christmas album and we’ve been really enjoying it in the car. You’re probably past festive music by now but bookmark this one for next year, it’s good!

I think Candy Cane Lane is my favourite…

Watched

We’ve watched so much in December, I’m not sure where to start. I wrote a post before Christmas summarising my year in numbers; I was ashamed to admit to only visiting the cinema 4 times in 2017!

So before December was out, I took my eldest and youngest to watch Paddington 2.

Have you seen it? It was the best film I’ve seen in ages! It absolutely lived up to the hype and in my opinion was better than the first one. Hugh Grant was fantastic. If you haven’t seen it, please go before it comes off the cinema screen.

In other news, my son and I have devoured two seasons of The Good Place on Netflix. To give you a brief introduction: the characters die and find themselves in The Good Place which they only get to if they’ve ‘earned’ their place whilst on earth. The main character, Eleanor Shellstrop (played by Kristen Bell) has ended up there by accident. In fear of being found out, she spends her time trying to work out what it means to be ‘good’. I wouldn’t describe it as dark comedy, but it is a little weird in places! We’ve both really enjoyed it though.

Wore

It’s been all about the Christmas/woolly jumpers (again) in December. Winter clothing really is my favourite. I’ve actually taken very few pictures of my outfits this month and none at all over Christmas! This embroidered jumper from H&M has been one of my favourite purchases this season.

Made

I’ve finally got something tangible to add to this section! Obviously December is all about Christmas preparation and I had such a lovely evening with a friend at a wreath-making workshop. I think the Prosecco helped but I was pretty impressed with my skills and the wreath is still brightening up my front door.

I also managed to turn my hand to making a chocolate yule log this year. I had to persuade everyone to eat a piece on Boxing Day and although it was quite tasty, it probably was ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back’! Remind me why we think we need all this food for just two days?

And lastly…

Our new garden room has come into its own this month, allowing us to host sleepovers as well as having family to stay at Christmas. I put the finishing touches to the shower room this month and I’m really pleased with it.

So that just about wraps up December and the year as it happens! I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a happy new year and thank you for sticking by me in 2017. Here’s to 2018 and whatever that might bring ?.

  • The shower room looks fantastic, and so does your wreath. I’m finally going to see Paddington 2 tomorrow! I attempted to go and see it last Friday, but it was sold out. My daughter has seen it twice already, but loves it so much that she is selflessly going with me. I haven’t been to the cinema much this year either. I went loads in 2016! Now we’ve finally left all three of our kids at home on their own, I think we need to go more in 2018.

I am so with you on Paddington, I can’t remember the last film which the whole family enjoyed so much, I’ve not heard a bad word about it from anyone. Your wreath is beautiful I picked up a leaflet about wreath making st a market so am hoping to give it a try next year. Happy new year x

  • I want to see Paddington! I don’t think I’ve been to the cinema at all this year (We don’t have one in our town!). Your new shower room looks gorgeous #littleloves

  • Mum Reinvented

That shower room is gorgeous! Your garden room really does sound like the perfect addition to your home. I can count the number of times I’ve been to the cinema this year on one hand too – and all kids films. Infact the little one has just informed me we’re off to see The Last Jedi on Sunday, lucky me! Have a great new year x

Hahaha thanks for the soundtrack! Thanks also for the recommendations. I booked tickets for Paddington tomorrow while I was reading your post, we’ve been meaning to go and that was just the kick I needed. We’re watching The Crown on Netflix at the moment but The Good Place sounds brilliant so it’s going to be next on our list!

Paddington was and is a great film although I think I prefer the 1st to the 2nd. Lovely photo of you in the jumper. I hope you have a super start to 2018 x

Oh a huge YAY for the Good Place! Isn’t it fantastic? I can’t wait for the new season, apparently it drops later this month.
Your shower room is stunning. I love metro tiles and grey grout. It’s the one thing I miss from our old house. I really dislike the main bathroom in our new one, but there is no way I can justify changing it or the expense of it (yet!) xx

Oh I loved the Davina book too as you know Suzanne. But like you was really sorry to hear she and her husband have since split up. Paddington sounds fantastic, we missed it over the holidays. Hopefully we might be able to catch it at the cinema one of these weekends. xx
