A Good Night’s Sleep with the Simba Hybrid Mattress {Review Plus a £75 Off Code}

Simba Hybrid Mattress Review

Looking back, my negative relationship with sleep probably began around the age of 11. My mum recalls me striding into her bedroom in the middle of the night boldly announcing “I can’t sleep“. Not much has changed, apart from my mum being replaced by my husband.

These days I’ve learnt to read a book or go downstairs for 30 minutes to get a change of scenery but I suffer terribly from jet lag, sleep incredibly lightly (thanks kids) and if I even sniff a caffeinated drink post 6pm, I’m doomed. Remember Hans Christian Anderson’s fairytale ‘The Princess and the Pea‘? That’s me.

You will understand therefore that when Simba invited me to review one of their Hybrid mattresses, I was sceptical. Even though it was being given to me free of charge and with the most amazing accolades, I wanted to do some research before snapping it up. I have the added complication of a back condition known as scoliosis, so not all mattresses work for me and we’ve had some in the past that I would not purchase again.

Simba Hybrid Mattress – the Low Down

Simba’s unique five layer design (high definition foam, reflex support form, 2500 cone-shaped springs, Simbatex foam, a breathable sleep surface) makes some bold promises:

  • cooling airflow (to regulate body temperature all year round)
  • cloud-like comfort
  • no motion transfer
  • the right support

Sounds good doesn’t it? I was keen to find out whether the Simba Hybrid mattress would be the answer to my sleep prayers. Another thing that persuaded me, is that Simba offer 100 days to trial it and if it’s not for you, then the mattress will be collected from your home free of charge and with minimum hassle to you.

Firstly there’s no need for “two big lads and a wheelbarrow” (any other Victoria Wood fans out there?) to get this beast up the stairs and onto your bed. Even the super-king mattress arrives rolled up in a box. Did I tell you that the delivery men are also happy to remove your old mattress free of charge?

I managed to extract the mattress with a little help from my daughter and succeeded in keeping a very keen dog off it for the 5 hours that were suggested. Why 5 hours? The mattress needs time to expand and in fact won’t be its full size until 48 hours after being out of the box.

I had noticed a few people mentioning that this mattress has a strange smell to it but as with all memory foam mattresses, within a couple of days it had dissipated. I actually quite liked the smell myself so it certainly isn’t too pungent.

Is it Too Good to be True?

Simba Hybrid Mattress Review

This mattress doesn’t claim to be anything other than firm; for me (and the dog) this works well. I find that my body lightly sinks into the memory foam without it collapsing underneath (thanks to the five layers) and it provides excellent support. If you have a back condition like scoliosis, this is something that is always recommended – reasonable support but not so hard that your back’s natural shape is pushed out of line.

My husband is about 5 stone heavier than me, something which on past mattresses has caused the ‘roll effect’ (when I spend the night hugging the edge of the bed so as not to continually be rolling into him). This is non-existent with the Simba Hybrid.

He is also prone to shaking the entire bed when he rolls over in the night, making me feel like I am on a ship in the middle of a particularly violent storm. With the Simba Hybrid, I have not been woken by this movement at all.

I can therefore confidently say that Simba’s claims to provide the ‘right support’ and ‘no motion transfer’ are both true.

My Final Thoughts on the Simba Hybrid Mattress?

I can honestly say that from day one, I found this mattress incredibly comfortable – the ‘cloud-like’ claim wasn’t too bold after all. We’ve had this mattress for 30 days now and I still look forward to sinking into it every single night.

I recently downloaded a sleep app on my phone and whilst tracking my sleep patterns, I’ve noticed that I spend considerably more time in ‘deep sleep’ since sleeping on the Simba Hybrid – that’s got to be good, right?!

Sounds good, Suzanne. I too suffer from sleep problems so anything that helps is good news. What is the sleep app you’re using? Sounds interesting. Hope the deep sleep continues to improve!
