Christmas was not how we wanted it to be with too Christmas was not how we wanted it to be with too many people missing around the table (not least our biggest girl) but we found joy in amongst the sadness and ended it with an impromptu walk at sundown. All in all, not too shabby.

I heard about the Stockdale Paradox during an inte I heard about the Stockdale Paradox during an interview between Brene Brown and Barack Obama the other day. I wanted to share it here because it puts into words the difficult tightrope I’ve been walking the last few years. 

For my mind to survive, I’ve learnt to balance hope with reality, which isn’t always easy. Sometimes I tip too far one way or the other, but quickly realise I’m off kilter. 

I don’t think anyone is living the life they would like right now and many of us are dealing with impossibly hard situations. It’s right that we should feel sad, disappointed, angry and frustrated (don’t let anyone try to minimise your pain) but we’ve got to keep that little spark of hope inside that it will all come good in the end.

If it works for Barack Obama, then I reckon it’s worth pursuing!

This year’s rather unkempt wreath effort comes w This year’s rather unkempt wreath effort comes with a public health warning: do not slam the door! Let’s just say that it is very precariously balanced on the nail that I secretly hammered into the front door when the husband wasn’t looking 🤫. 

I usually get together with friends to enjoy an evening of Prosecco drinking and wreath making. I was sad to miss it  this year but my door looked naked without one so I ventured solo.

I’m thinking it might need a big gold bow, what do you think? Is it a bit sparse?
