[dropcap]I[/dropcap]’m on my virtual soapbox at the moment, shouting for the 40+ woman to be heard and seen in the online world. Why? Because every age group needs a voice and we are no exception!
As I’ve got older, I have become increasingly interested in beauty products. I put this new-found fascination down to four things:
- Sharing my home with two teenage daughters who critique my every bad eyebrow day.
- Having a little more disposable income.
- Finally learning the value of self care.
- Needing it more!
So, I thought it would be beneficial for us all to hear from some real life 40-something women who have tried and tested various products over the years – what products do they swear by?
I have been inundated with recommendations which has left me wanting to buy every single one immediately! I am therefore going to split these blog posts into three; today I am going to focus on the best face products out there…
Best Face Products for 40+ Women
The older we get, the more hydration is required on the face. Fact. Some might say that drinking 2 litres of water is the way to go and whilst I would agree, I’ve yet to stick to any new year’s resolutions where drinking water is concerned.
I am always on the look out for face products that smell good, don’t leave a greasy appearance and make me look ten years younger – not too much to ask, surely? I have tried everything from Liz Earle to Superdrug’s own brand but have yet to find ‘The One’. Could these be a contender?
L’Occitane Divine Eyes (£52.00 for 15ml)
Recommended by Caro from The Twinkle Diaries
“My eyes certainly look a lot less wrinkly and considering I’m on my second bottle, at that price it must be good!”
Dior Hydralife Face Cream (£45.50 for 500ml)
Recommended by Deborah from Country Heart and Home
“It is amazing and smells divine too!”
Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief (£34 for 50ml)
Recommended by Emma from Bubba Blue and Me
“It’s great for brightening my skin either in the morning or the evening. It doesn’t make my skin greasy and lasts for ages!”
Balance Me Radiance Face Oil (£30 for 30ml)
As recommended by Julia from Rainbeaubelle
“It’s like giving my skin a big drink of water and makes it look fresh and healthy and much more rested the next day.”
IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream (£30)
Recommended by Lynne from A Day in the Life of a Mum of 6
“A light moisturising cc cream which gives a lovely dewy finish. Doesn’t linger in fine lines and just gives my skin a much needed boost.”
M&S Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream (£22.00 for 50ml)
Recommended by Bonita from Mamas VIB
“The 8 hour sleep cream is a miracle worker!”
Clinique 3 Step Introduction Kit (£20.00)
Recommended by Maria from Happy Mummy
“My wrinkles and fine lines are considerably reduced on the days I use it compared to those when I’m in a hurry and skip it!”
Olay Total Effects Moisturiser (£10 for 50ml)
Recommended by Angela from The Life of Spicers
“It’s always on offer and makes my skin feel amazing.”
Dirty Works Overnight Facial Lift (£8.00 for 50ml)
Recommended by Debbie from My Boys Club
“A really good overnight cream that is budget friendly and cruelty free too.”
Aldi Lacura Cuvee Royale 24 hr Moisturising Mousse (£7.99 available in store only)
Recommended by Lynn from Mrs Mummy Penny
“I’ve spent most of my adult life spending a small fortune on expensive skincare products but I thought it was time to try something different. It’s good and my skin looks great.”
And lastly, something a little bit different:
Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask (£2.00)
Recommended by Nicky from Not Just the Three of Us
“The visible difference to the skin is unbelievable; at that price, a miracle!”
So there we have it, eleven face moisturising products that have been tried and tested by women in their 40s and beyond. Have you tried any of them already? Do you have a face product that you swear by? We would love to hear from you in the comments below.

7 years agosome lovely products, thanks for sharing my tips for Olay. I love finding new products that I may not have previously discovered.

7 years agoI’d like to also recommend Super Greens and Organic Elixir by Tropics Skin Care (available by mail order/agents only). Also Night Repair and Skin Revive moisturisers. It’s all totally natural products – Susan Ma, the owner, nearly won The Apprentice, I believe, but I think Sugar backed her anyway!
I’ve been using these products for over 2 years now. I’m 58 and suddenly went ‘waaaah!’ when I noticed all the lines round my mouth one day. Since using these products they’ve not only not got worse, but got a whole lot better. They’re DISAPPEARING! Also, the Tropics foundation is great for ageing skin.
btw, I’m not their promoter or anything, just love the products!

7 years ago AUTHORYes I remember her being on – Sugar did back her! These sound amazing, I will definitely go and check them out. I’ve just started noticing lines around my mouth, they need some magic!

7 years agoLOVE this little round up Suzanne!!! It’s fab reading reviews from other people (especially when they’re genuine, not paid for!). I’m especially interested by what Terry (above) said!! What a fantastic endorsement — I’m off to check them out right away!! The fact she said the ageing process is reversing since she started using them is amazing!! 🙂

7 years agoWhat great products, I haven’t actually tried any of them although I do love Loccitane
Chloe: Picture Taker Memory Maker
7 years agoI’m not in the 40+ category yet but I am very aware of the need to take care of my skin. My Mum uses Olay so that’s the one I’ll probably end up trying first!

7 years agoCrikey, we obviously spend quite a bit on skincare (actually I don’t, because my recommendation was a gift, and someone else just bought me more this Christmas – result). Thanks for including mine

7 years agoSo many gorgeous products here Suzanne. I’ve started to take care of my skin more recently and yes, I too have a daughter that like’s to critique my eyebrows daily! Oh and point out any new wrinkles! She’s not such a fan when I turn the tables and point out a pimple on her face though! 😉 xx

7 years agoI am totally with you on your first four points Suzanne. For me they have happened at 50 (late starter). The thing is we know what we like and we like what we know, don’t we. But there does comes a time when a change up is needed. I’m really interested to see that so many of the ‘cheaper’ brands get a look in here. Even better. I’m very tempted by Caro’s eye cream too (sans Birthday Gift Voucher). I had a nice Decleor range for my birthday but it just clogged my skin and I’ve gone back to Simple and Dermalogica. Thanks for featuring my comments on the Moisture Bomb. I’d better stock up on a few more as they’ve already gone up 150% from the 99p they started at! Thanks also for sharing with #tweensteensbeyond and joining us for the first time. We hope you will join us again

7 years agoAs someone who is not exactly an expert at this sort of thing, I’m thrilled to find two familiar products in this list. I use Olay 7 and have done for a few years, I find it pretty good. Then, I decided to try out Clinique foundation and the lovely lady gave me a sample of moisture surge which (I think) is making the skin around my eyes a little firmer. I may invest in a bottle. Loved this post, thanks so much for sharing with us at #TweensTeensBeyond xx
Heledd - Running in Lavender
7 years agoNot quite 40 (but almost) and I can totally vouch for the IT CC Cream, which is really good!!! And the amazing Ultimate Sleep Cream from M&S, which has become my new fave night cream. Great post xx
Suzanne W
7 years ago AUTHORI’ve bought the Ultimate Sleep Cream after it was recommended so many times!

7 years agoI really need to start taking care of my face and using some lotions and potions. Might have to take a few notes here on these lovely products. #wrc
