Cold Feet, Death by Chocolate and Going Out Out #LittleLoves

The Girl Who Came Back

Most of you know that I’ve been a blogger for quite some time; not writing in this space, but over at 3 Children and It. From time to time, us bloggers like to jump on the back of other people’s ideas…with their permission of course!

Coffee, Work, Sleep Repeat is a blog I’ve followed for a long time. The lovely Morgana hosts her ‘Little Loves’ linky every Friday and I’ve been itching to join in with it for ages. I love the idea of sharing 5 things that I’ve discovered/enjoyed during the week and know I will take as much pleasure from having a nosy at other people’s. So without further ado, here are my ‘Little Loves’ for this week…

Read:

One thing I’ve promised myself to do more of (now that I have so much time on my hands *cough*) is reading. Actual books. I’ve finally activated my Good Reads account and plan on using it to find recommended books going forward. For now, I did the lovely old fashioned pursuit of going into a book shop and choosing one that took my fancy.

The Girl Who Came Back

It might have taken me a whole month to get halfway through but I’m enjoying this book. It’s an easy read, perfect for bedtime – a little bit of suspense, lots of complicated family relationships and a plot that keeps me wanting to know more. Hopefully joining in with Little Loves each week will hold me accountable to actually finishing it (I’m not so great at that bit).

Watched:

Oh my goodness how I jumped for joy when a new series of Cold Feet was advertised on our TV screens. With the exception of Friends, it is my all-time favourite show, one that I have watched over and over again.

I was concerned for a while, that it wouldn’t live up to my expectations. In fact I reserved judgement until the end of the second episode. Now? I’m officially hooked.

I love that they’ve kept the original music. I adore the fact that after 20 years, Jenny (my favourite character) remains her ditsy, blunt and oh so northern self. And with each episode I marvel at the writer’s ability to convey both poignancy and humour into real life situations.

Have you seen it?

Heard:

“Do you like Bastille?” read the text.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure how to answer that initially (I can never remember which band sings what song) but isn’t that what Google was invented for? It didn’t take long to recall just how much I LOVE Bastille and have been singing along to this ever since.

My friend was wanting to offer us free tickets to see Bastille at the O2 *squeals*. A night out for The Husband and I, as well as some quality time with friends. Double whammy! I can’t wait.

Made:

A whole plateful of chocolatey goodness. What’s not to like?

This week marks birthday season in our house. The Husband and The Boy have consecutive birthdays so this enormous cake will have to do them both. It’s a Mary Berry special and has about 3 bars of dark chocolate in it – good job birthdays are only once a year!

Wore:

One thing I love more than anything about the arrival of Autumn is resurrecting my ankle boots. Did I tell you how much I love footwear? Out of all the different types of footwear I own, ankle boots are my absolute favourite. They go with everything from skirts, to jeans, to leggings, to smart trousers. They can be dressed up and dressed down, flat or with a heel.

Ah Autumn…how we love thee.

And Lastly:

I popped my Gin Festival cherry on Saturday night and I can confirm that it was absolutely worth it – so many gins under one (tent) roof! I went with my oldest friends from 6th form college and we had a blast. It didn’t take us long to decide that it should be declared an annual event. Here’s a little picture of my favourite tipple…

  • That cake looks amazing! The book sounds right up my street too. I read a lot of books like that! I went into a bookshop and bought myself EIGHT books last week – it was my birthday and it was birthday money, so it was entirely guilt free. I’ve already read one and a half of them. I’m reading a lot more than usual this year and loving it.
That is a lot of boots! I managed to survive last winter wearing only Converse as both my Dr Martens and Uggs had died a death and a) they are expensive to replace and b) I’m very bad at spending money on myself, even when I need stuff (apart from books!).

I think you need to rectify this ‘not spending money on myself’ thing right away! Having said that, you do buy books so that’s a good start. I’m actually really enjoying this book. I think you’d like it too. Means I’m sleeping later and later though!

  • Morgana

Chocolate cake, Cold Feet and a gin festival, I mean what’s not to love? Sounds like my idea of perfection 😉

Ah thank you for the encouragement. The cake was/is amazing – it’s huge and we’re still eating it! There are lots of Gin Festivals around – it seems to be the ‘in’ thing. Go and check it out 🙂 x x

Wow! That cake looks amazing. It reminds me of the chocolate cake from Matilda, the one that Bruce has to eat! I have lost my reading spark lately, but really need to get into something soon! Enjoy your weekend xx

Welcome to Little Loves! Great little round up and oh my goodness that cake! Yay for Coldfeet although I have just watched this weeks episode and I found it a bit silly. Hopefully back to usual next week x

Yes this week’s one wasn’t so good, I agree. I shall persevere though and put it down to a blip. Does everyone need to be splitting up with their other halves?!

  • Tracey Williams

So good to see you over at Little Loves Suzanne. Hope your son and husband had great birthdays and devoured the chocolate cake. Oh I LOVE Cold Feet and it is just as good (if not better) second time around. Though it does sometimes feel like a lesson in parenting with the characters having teens. I should start taking notes really lol. Gin festival sounds a perfect thing to do with girlfriends x

I love the fact they have teenagers now and are visiting all of the things that we are. Such good TV viewing for a Monday night. In fact there’s too many good things on at the moment, I keep missing them! x

  • Plutonium Sox

OMG my two favourite things in one post – gin and cake! I haven’t been to a gin festival yet but it’s definitely on my list of things to do!
