At Home With…Sarah {Mum of Three World}

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]his month’s ‘At Home With…’ post features one of the first bloggers I ever reached out to. I came across Sarah’s blog about five years ago, when I embarked on my own journey into the world of over-sharing. I was hooked immediately.

Sarah’s children are a similar age to mine (although different sexes) and her husband also owns and runs a business (like mine).

Sarah Mum of Three World

Sarah is a keen runner, totally dedicated to her children and surprisingly uninterested in home interiors! By her own admission, any design flair is all thanks to her husband. There’s a really interesting story behind how they acquired their home so if you’re nosey like me, you’ve come to the right place.

Where do you live and how long have you lived in your home?

We live in Cheltenham and have lived in our home for three and a half years.

What were the first impressions of your home?

I grew up just up the road from here and actually remember my house being built – even though it was 1987! I’d wanted to live here for a long time and when I mentioned it to my husband, he agreed. We left it a couple of years before writing to the elderly couple who lived here. As it happened, we timed it perfectly as they’d just had it valued and were preparing to move out of the area.

When I stepped inside, I absolutely loved it! There was a lot of work needed doing, and I didn’t really realise just how much until we actually had the keys.

Have you had any major work done?

We’ve had both the main bathroom and the kitchen replaced. They were both absolutely hideous before.

The house was completely stuck in the 1980s. We had the bathroom done as soon as we moved in and the kitchen done just over a year later.

We knocked down the wall to the dining room, so we’ve got a lovely open space. We’ve also replaced the downstairs toilet and done lots of smaller stuff like replacing all of the doors and getting the window frames outside painted.

What is your favourite room in the house?

It’s pretty close, but I think the kitchen just has the edge. Not because I’m a cook, just because it is so nice! I spend as much of my time as possible sat at the breakfast bar, particularly when I’m working.

Pendant lights can be purchased from John Lewis.

I think in terms of decor, the downstairs toilet is the best. My husband had the genius idea of including a very large mirror in there and it makes it feel really light and spacious. As the third major bit of work we’d had done, we’d learned from our experiences of the main bathroom and kitchen and I think we got it 100% right.

I also love my stairs. We have a huge window in the hall, which is what first attracted me to the house, and literally every time I walk down the stairs I feel grateful to be living here.

Is there anything that you would change about your home if you could?

I am desperate to get our ensuite bathroom done. We’d hoped to do it last year, but didn’t have enough money, so decided to do the downstairs toilet instead. If my ensuite bathroom was a public toilet, you would walk in and walk straight back out again as it’s so awful! It’s pink and everything is broken, including the toilet! All we use it for now is brushing our teeth.

Every spring we say we’ll get it done in the autumn, then every autumn we say we’ll get it done in the spring and it hasn’t happened yet. Will next spring be the one? I don’t know.

What is the next home project that we can look forward to seeing on your blog?

With any luck the next project will be the hideous ensuite. There are a couple of other pockets of the house in desperate need of TLC, particularly the utility room and yet another toilet upstairs, but the ensuite is the only one I really care about.

Our own bedroom needs some work, but as we have so much space in the rest of the house, the bedroom is only really for sleeping and I’m not that bothered that it is ordinary and a bit untidy.

Refreshingly honest, that’s how I would describe Sarah! She’s exactly the same on her blog, where she shares ‘the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth’ behind family life with three children in secondary school.

You’ll never get any fluffy nonsense or exaggerated stories from Sarah, she is the real deal.

If you want to find out if that ensuite ever gets replaced, then you can also follow her on social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.

  • Thanks very much for including me – and saying such nice things about me, my blog and my house! Thank goodness for my husband, otherwise we’d still be living in the 1980s nightmare! Keep your fingers crossed that the ensuite gets sorted sooner rather than later…

I can see why Sarah fell for the house, it looks lovely, and It’s great to do it up bit by bit.

Aw I love this and so happy that Sarah got to move to her dream house. I have serious bathroom and kitchen envy, plus how tidy are both of those rooms. Love the idea of a huge mirror in the downstairs toilet. Oh and Sarah was the person who inspired me to start blogging 4 years ago. She has a lot to answer for lol x

    The house is just beautiful!
Sarah was one of the first blogs I started reading when I started blogging. Such a lovely lady and family x

Oh you have done so lovely renovations already. I love it. I know what you mean it’s hard when you just want to do everything right away and cant. I am constantly changing ours around but I think I am finally getting it to a place I love and leave it. #wrc

Love the look of Sarah’s house, I’m not surprised she was so desperate to get it. All the renovations look fantastic, it takes time to make changes I remember that from our previous house! Love this feature Suzanne xx
