A New Season, Pretty Frills and Some Great TV #LittleLoves

I naively thought that as the calendar tipped into March, we would see the arrival of Spring; by that, I mean warmer climes. Sadly this week I’ve braved one too many baltic dog walks and my beautiful pastel Adidas trainers that I bought last week remain firmly in my wardrobe. Come on Spring, we are so ready for you! We all know that I will probably be pining after my winter boots within 6 months but for now, I’m super excited about being on the cusp of a new season.

As I write this, the sun is actually shining so I’m hopeful for better things this weekend. Anyway, what have I been loving this week?

Read

I’m doing that thing again, where I have about 4 books on the go at once.  I don’t know if this is an indication of the state of my mind right now, but either way I’ve certainly got something to cover all moods!

Room Book

This week I’ve been delving back into ‘Room’.  It’s a film I’ve been wanting to see for a good while now but I always prefer to read the book first. Already gripped but know it’s going to be harrowing so kind of bracing myself.

Watched

Catastrophe is back! I dipped in and out of the first series of this sitcom about life, love and parenting. By the second series I was hooked and so was the husband. We howled with laughter at many points during the last series.

I’ll be honest though, I was squirming during parts of the first episode on Tuesday evening. Call me a prude if you will but yeah *cringe*. As each series is only 6 episodes long, I will however be sticking with it in the hope that it calms down a bit!

The other programme I was thrilled to see back on our screens this week, is Broadchurch. Did you watch it? Now that I have Sky Q I never miss anything! I loved series one of Broadchurch – the scenery, the acting, the storyline – series two seemed to lose its way a little in my opinion. This one has all of the makings to be great viewing though so I’m looking forward to episode 2 next week.

Heard

I’ve always loved Coldplay, Fix You being one of my all time favourite songs. Chris Martin’s voice is so distinctive and this new song of theirs can be spotted as a Coldplay track immediately. As always, I’m really enjoying it – Capital Radio you can play this as much as you like!

Wore

I managed to sneak into Reading for a bit of retail therapy at the end of last week. On my own! I am loving all the pastels and frills around right now – very girlie. I’m not usually into wearing light colours – if I had my ‘Colours’ done I think I would come out as a Winter or Autumn. However, I couldn’t resist this pastel pink sweater from Zara with the added little frill down the side. At only £19.99, how could I walk away?

Made

Guess what? I made pancakes! I’m guessing that everyone joining in with Little Loves this week is probably going to mention the ‘P’ word. Mine were a tad disappointing so no photographic evidence I’m afraid. Turns out that sitting in the warming drawer for a little too long and our (apparently) ‘non stick’ frying pan weren’t exactly the best combination!

I do love a pancake though. We always make the big thin ones but I fancy having a go at the thicker, smaller ones for breakfast one day. Anyone have a recipe? Feel free to leave it in the comments below.

And Lastly

I spent the best part of 24 hours deliberating over pressing ‘publish’ on this rather personal post yesterday. It might sound weird but I felt compelled to write it and based on the feedback I’ve received so far, I made the right decision. My motivation was to tell people that it’s ok not to have a perfect marriage/family, that behind social media we are all the same – just human beings trying to do our level best at this thing called life.

On that note, have a perfectly imperfect weekend and I’ll catch you all on the other side.

  • I think there have been definite glimmers of spring this week and the lighter mornings and evenings are most definitely welcome!
Your new jumper is a real bargain!
Room is one of my favourite books ever. I just love the way it is written.
I was very late to the Coldplay party. I could take them or leave them for many years, but we went to see them last year and now I am most definitely a fan!

I can’t believe that someone who can ‘take or leave them’ went to see Coldplay in concert – not fair!!!!

Just read your post from yesterday and I think most of us can definitely relate lovely. I love Coldplay too they have some amazing songs. Come on come on sunshine – its grey and wet here!! Have a fab weekend #littleloves

I am off to read your post in a minute after Morgana mentioned it in her Little Loves. Love your sweater, and I agree about Spring. We keep getting little glimpses of it and then boom back to big coats and fluffy socks to keep warm. I outsource my pancake making to the parents as my step dad is chief pancake maker. I am not going to argue with that. Have a great week x

Yay for pancakes! Ours were a bit rushed as I was at work until late, but they’re so good! Also shopping alone…what a treat 🙂 #LittleLoves

I make the thicker pancakes all the times for my kids. I use a mug of plain flour, mug of milk, 2 eggs, teaspoon of baking powder (optional extra frozen blueberries). I love Catastrophe too. I’m just sitting down to watch this weeks episode now.

Ooh thank you for the recipe! I will definitely be making these 🙂

I love pancakes, but totally have them whenever we fancy them! I finished Room this week and still don’t know how I feel about it. Want to see the film still though. Off to read your post now, enjoy your weekend xx

  • Jenny

I know I made pancakes but unlike me I forgot to photo them I am still tempted to share them lol Weeks later why not. Love the outfit lady boots always fab. I have ROOM on my list too. Hope you have had a lovely weekend #littleloves

Room is definitely harrowing. I read the book on holiday and felt quite empty afterwards. Same with the movie. It’s far too real – that this sort of thing can really happen. I look forward to seeing what you think when you’ve finished it – and seen the movie. Your other post is open in another tab for me to read in a second 🙂 Hope you’re having a lovely weekend x

  • Love that pink sweater Suzanne, and love that blog post you wrote even more- as you know I shared it. Such an honest, down-to-earth post xxx #Little Loves

  • Morgana

Room is a harrowing read for sure as is the film, I look forward to reading what you think of it.
We love Catastrophe but haven’t started the new series yet, it’s hard to find the time to fit everything in.
I hadn’t heard that Coldplay track before and really enjoyed it. Have a great week and again, thanks for your marriage post xx

Catastrophe was so funny last night! I’m slightly dreading getting further into Room as I think it’s going to become more and more difficult to read 🙁 xx

I loved Room despite the harrowing aspects, and the film was brilliant – I thought the actor who plays Jack was phenomenal. Not sure what that says about me 😉
