Growing Up, Embracing the Dress and Justin Timberlake #LittleLoves

Have you been enjoying the sunshine this week? I realised yesterday that we haven’t had any rain at all over the Easter holidays – I reckon that’s a first! The amazing temperatures at the weekend got me panicking thinking about our summer holiday which after much deliberation, I finally booked this week. I think we’ve made a good decision.

Apologies for my absence from Little Loves last week but I ran out of time and felt that it would be a good opportunity to give my mind a little rest. But here I am back with a double whammy…

Read

I’ve actually really struggled with reading recently. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I have too many non-fiction books on the go (three) and I’m therefore feeling slightly overwhelmed. But having read Jess’ great tips on finding time to read, I realised that I’ve missed that element of escapism that a fiction book provides.

So, I have finally ordered ‘The Break Down’ by B.A. Paris which is this month’s #BookClub140 offering. Now to finish those other 3 books!

Watched

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve managed to watch two films that I missed out on at the cinema – Moana and Trolls. Never too old for a bit of Disney/Dreamworks action!

As this post is all about the things I’m loving, I will concentrate on Trolls (let’s just say that Moana wasn’t for me). The incredible combination of music, humour and wonderfully bright colours made this the perfect feel good movie, one that all five of us enjoyed. Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop this Feeling’ made it for me – how can you sit all the way through this without dancing? So good!

I simply can’t leave this section without mentioning Catastrophe. Did you see the final episode last week? Oh my goodness. This series so reminds me of Cold Feet in that they tackle really serious topics whilst injecting a bit of humour. One minute I was laughing out loud, only to be stopped in my tracks just a few seconds later.

If you haven’t caught up with this series yet, I really would recommend you make the time.

Heard

We decided to take a little trip to the beach yesterday. It’s the dog’s favourite place on earth and living a few hours from the nearest coastline, we so rarely go. We opted for West Wittering but stopped by the local marina where we had booked a dog-friendly pub, for lunch.

The sound of those masts chinking in the breeze was music to my ears; I had forgotten quite how pleasurable it is. And followed by the sound of the ocean a little later in the day? Just perfect. Until the dog stole someone’s burgers right off their BBQ, but that’s another story!

Wore

We’ve had two ‘dress up’ functions over the last week or so and by that, I mean occasions for which I felt obliged to wear a dress. I never wear a dress!

When I first went shopping to search for a suitable outfit, I was hoping to find one dress that fits all: a wedding, a christening and an 80th birthday party. Then I realised that I would be seeing the same people at at least two of these events and that would never do!

In the end, I found two quite affordable dresses so bought both.  You’d be hard pushed to find anything other than florals and bell sleeves in the shops at the moment. Thankfully, I rather like the combination and on this particular dress, the sleeve is made from a nice sheer fabric which works well for the slightly unfortunate C.A.S. (Crepey Arm Syndrome) which seems to occur literally overnight once you hit 45. Just me? This dress is from Lipsy at Next and I will definitely be wearing it again.

I even treated myself to some new nail polish which matched my shoes – I think I’m finally growing up!

Made

I actually made quite a few things this week – a delicious lemon pavlova (Nigella’s creation), banana loaf cake (always a winner) and pancakes. Yes, I cracked the American pancake and they were so yummy!

And Lastly…

It’s been a weird couple of weeks. We had a few big events in the diary, but the rest of the days have kind of merged into one as we haven’t really done very much. I thrive on being around people and have felt a little disconnected (desperate for company!) at times but we also really needed some rest time, so that has taken precedence.

Our plans for the weekend have been cancelled last minute so we now have four rather empty days ahead of us, which of course I’m filling up as we speak! I’m thinking church, dog walks, a pub lunch with friends and maybe a trip to the cinema. Whatever you’re up to this Easter weekend, I hope it’s a good one.

Oh gosh I’m totally with you on the last episode of Catastrophe! I watched it last night and went from laughing aloud to being sat opened mouthed in shock. It’s such a well written series.
Your weekend sounds lovely and much like ours to be honest, friends, family and church. Enjoy! xx

I could sense something was about to happen but wow! I’m sad it’s finished – what with that and Broadchurch too. What am I going to do of an evening?! x

  • Claire

I’m behind with Catastrophe but will find time to catch up one day! I hope you fill your Easter weekend. Our’s was looking quiet until last weekend now it’s full of exciting plans (just how I like it).

Not watched Catastrophe but I have heard so much about it! I absolutely loved Trolls, the sound track is great! Not watched Moana yet, I am in two minds whether I would actually enjoy it. Have a wonderful Easter weekend xx

I need to make more time to read too – I know what you mean about good fiction being pure escapism; my only problem is that I find I’m so into the book I just can’t put it down, which is not terribly conducive to family life!!

I have been a bit disappointed by Catastrophe this series. It’s been more dramatic than funny – too much for me!!
Booking a holiday – how exciting! Trying to convince my hub to but he’s having none of it – git! #littleloves

I love your dress Suzanne, and well done on booking your summer holiday. We have nothing planned in the diary yet for summer, but I can’t complain as we have just got back from Greece. Oh god laughing at the thought of your dog snatching somebodies burgers from the BBQ. Have a lovely restful weekend whatever you get up too #littleloves x

  • Stacie

The beach looks gorgeous! I’ve not yet seen Trolls, but I think Parker would love it. Glad you will be joining us for #BookClub140 – I’ve not had much luck with reading lately, but this one is good so far. Enjoy your Easter weekend xx

Yes I’m really getting into it already and I’m only 2 chapters in! Thanks for encouraging me to read, I enjoy it when I make the time 🙂 x

I still haven’t caught up with Catastrophe. The ads look like it’s my kind of show but there just aren’t enough hours in the day!

I’m sure it will always be there to catch up on at some point. Well worth it and each episode is only 30 minutes long 🙂

  • Mum Reinvented

Crepey arm syndrome, that did make me laugh – I have bingo wings if that’s any consolation! Love that dress! Everyone seems to be going to Lake Como lately and I’ve never heard anyone say they were disappointed. It looks so beautiful, you lucky things! I’ve only just got onto the 2nd series of Catastrophe, it’s so funny! I would love to have seen your dog nick those burgers!! Have a lovely weekend x

It doesn’t matter how hard I try, there’s nothing I can do to put off the crepey arms – what’s going on?! Keep going with Catastrophe, it gets better 🙂

  • We haven’t seen Trolls, but Can’t Stop the Feeling is very special to us as it was in my daughter’s pantomime. My husband, daughter and I watched Moana a few weeks ago and we all loved it!
Your dress is beautiful. I’ve had to buy a dress too!
Enjoy your new book! I read a B A Paris last year and it was one of the scariest books I’d ever read.

Oh you must watch Trolls! You will love it, I’m sure – especially your daughter. I’m really getting into the book, which is always a great sign when I’m only about 2 chapters in – I don’t have much staying power! x

  • Kerri-Ann

You didn’t like Moana – discuss? We LOVED it although Trolls is so fantastic, I want to pop it on now but the boy is all about Hulk SMASH today. That dress looks lovely as does the nail polish. I hope you managed to fill your weekend and ooh before I forget – I need to know more about the stolen burger from the BBQ. Laugh out loud I did. x #littleloves

I was excited about Moana but I just found it a bit boring…as did my 15 year old but she finds most things ‘boring’ at the moment lol! My son enjoyed it. It picked up during the second half and I did like the music but it was a bit too cliched but I guess that’s Disney for you! xx

  • Seaside Sparkles

We loved Trolls too and we listen to the soundtrack often, such a happy, uplifting album. I agree about the sound of the sea, there is nothing more relaxing than grabbing a take away coffee and just sitting on the beach wall, one of the perks of living at the seaside. As well as the sound I have discovered the sea is always a different shade of blue.
