At Home With : Elena Cid {Loved By Elena}

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ne of the things I love about my ‘At Home With…’ series is that every house we get to nosey around is unique and the interior gives a real flavour of who the owner is.

This month’s home is owned by Elena who writes a popular lifestyle blog, Loved by Elena, and it is completely different from any of the others I’ve showcased so far. Elena has certainly put her unique stamp on it. Shall we take a look?

At home with

Who lives in your home?

Me, Elena, originally from Spain but have lived in the UK for over 20 years, my partner, and my two boys, Alex 8 and Leo 6.

Where do you live and how long have you lived there?

I live in East London on the border of Essex. It’s a great location, we can jump on the central line and be in the West End in 30 minutes but we also have Epping Forest on our doorstep.

What was the first impression of your home?

We first viewed the house in early May, there was a beautiful pink cherry tree outside and it just made the house look really nice.

We loved how the previous owners had renovated nearly all the rooms and it was ready to move in. At the time my son was still a baby and I wanted somewhere that didn’t require any real work.

Have you had any major work done?

Not really, we renovated the living room, which was the only room the previous owners hadn’t touched and we created a patio at the end of the garden, but apart from that the house looks pretty much the same as when we bought it.

What is your favourite room in the house?

I love the living room. It’s the only room we completely renovated ourselves and it went from looking incredibly scruffy with a dirty carpet to a really modern, contemporary looking room.

We changed the old ‘hole in the wall’ fireplace and replaced it with a beautiful Victorian one and had some fitted alcoves built in. It’s a beautiful bright room so I love spending time in it.

Is there anything that you would change about your home?

Probably the layout of the kitchen. It’s a pretty decent size but its shape and the positions of the doors – patio and utility – mean that the units, breakfast bar and white goods can’t really be moved about.  We also haven’t got space for a main door to open properly so there isn’t one.

I’d also love to have a big wide hallway – the one we have feels a bit too crammed.

What is the next home project that we can look forward to seeing on your blog?

We have just completely transformed the kitchen on a small budget. We changed the black floor for a wood effect tile one and painted the units dark blue (they used to be dark brown before). These changes have given the kitchen a really modern look which I love.

I’ve heard it under good authority that Elena will be giving a complete tour of her kitchen very soon. Isn’t it amazing? I absolutely love that striking blue colour against the bleached wood on the floor – so unusual.

Yes that’s why I love reading interiors blogs as they replace the old school homes magazines for me. Love gathering some inspiration. Thank you for sharing your home.

  • Another beautiful home, I love this feature of yours Suzanne. When our new house is all ready, I’ll get you to do our xx

  • I really love this series of yours Suzanne – getting to see inside other people’s homes is so interesting! That fireplace in the lounge is gorgeous – we don’t have a fireplace and I’ve always wanted one with alcoves I can stuff full of all our books.
