Catastrophe, Early Mornings and a New Job #LittleLoves

You know, I *almost* decided not to share a Little Loves post this week. I’ve been having a bit of a pity party of late, wondering what my blog has to offer the world but so many of you said that you love my conversational style and in particular these weekly posts, so here I am!

I want to thank anyone who took the time to comment on that post, because it really gave me a fresh boost of energy and enthusiasm. Writing a blog is sometimes hard, especially if you can see 250 people have viewed your post but no bug*** has bothered to leave a comment. Is anyone even enjoying it? Well yes they are! So thank you.

Hasn’t it been beautiful weather? Well it’s beautiful as I type this, so I’m erasing all memory of that cold snap at the beginning of the week. Even though the sun has been shining, I’ve been floored by the clock change at the weekend. Anyone else? I simply cannot get out of bed in the mornings and that’s quite unlike me – I usually wake before my alarm but sheesh it’s been hard work this week.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been loving…

Read

Honestly? Not a great deal this week. I’ve dipped in and out of a few books that I have on the go – The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and Soul Keeping by John Ortberg. I’m holding out for next month’s #bookclub140 offering to be announced and then I’m planning to purchase that. You never know, I might even finish it in time for the Twitter party!

I did read a brilliant article which I’ve been thinking about (and adjusting our lifestyle accordingly) a lot this week. Do you do too much for your kids? Is it time to take a bit of a back seat? This one will particularly appeal to anyone with kids in double figures. Go have a read.

Watched

Ooh Broadchurch is hotting up isn’t it? I’m really enjoying this season. So whodunnit then? I’ve no doubt that we are in for a huge surprise.

I was laughing out loud at Catastrophe this week – did you watch it? Such good TV. I just love Sharon Hogan’s character so much; I can only hope she’s the same in real life. Not that I’m ever likely to meet her but if we did…you know…I think we could be friends.

What else have I watched? I managed to catch James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke with Take That which appeared on Comic Relief last Friday evening. I’ve always wanted to go and see them in concert and want to even more now, especially when they also appeared on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Take Away (confession time: this is one of my favourite TV programmes). If you missed it, here’s the clip…

Heard

My two girls have been getting their musical game on this week. When the eldest became ill, she completely stepped away from playing her piano or flute and I’ve missed it so much. Together (wonders will never cease) they played and sang along to ‘Jar of Hearts’ and it sounded so beautiful (I’m allowed a little bias, yes?).

I’ve also really immersed myself  in this song over the last few days. When I get into a song, I tend to play it on repeat and this one has been great for helping me to remember who I am as a child of God.

And just to keep it real, I’ve also been singing ‘Issues’ by Julia Michaels over and over again. So catchy!

Wore

Pretty nails! My son bought me this gorgeous nail varnish for Mother’s Day and I’m in love with it. A perfect colour for spring and such good value for money – just £3.99 from Seventeen by Boots. The colour is called ‘Mocha Tini’ but it’s more of a dusky pink when applied.

Seventeen Nail Varnish

If you follow me on Facebook, you will know that I’ve declared April a ‘No New Clothes’; to be honest, it’s been long overdue. I’m feeling a little bit panicky about it but no one said anything about accessories, so watch this space for new posts – summer bag anyone?

Made

I made a big decision this week – to take on a new job. I already have two part-time jobs, but for a while now I’ve been thinking about doing some freelance work as a social media manager. I love social media (what blogger doesn’t?) so it seemed an obvious thing for me. And then something kind of landed in my lap. So as of tomorrow, I will be taking over the social media accounts of a local company.

We are starting on a 3 month trial just to see how it works out. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

And finally…

We’ve got an exciting weekend planned with my dad’s 80th birthday bash kicking us off tonight. My sister and I have agreed to do a short speech but having had very little time to prepare (where does the time go?) I’m not sure how it’s going to pan out. I’ve also got 25 balloons being delivered at 2pm this afternoon. Wish me luck attempting to squeeze those into my car!

Whatever you’re doing this weekend, I hope the sun shines for you and you get a chance to recharge.

I love your blog and the article on doing too much for your teens was so apt for our house this week (two teenage boys!). Thank you for sharing!

    • Suzanne

I always love to be of assistance to people with teenagers in the house! I think we need to challenge our thinking sometimes don’t we?

I really need to catch up on Broadchurch – watched the first episode but then fell by the wayside a bit. I love Issues as well, such an ear worm. Great shade of nail polish, I’m always looking for spring-ish colours! And woo, congratulations on the new job! Hope it pans out well. Have a fab weekend x #LittleLoves

    • Suzanne

Thanks so much. I’m excited about starting something new. You can always catch up with Broadchurch but it’s getting really good now! Have a lovely weekend too. x

  • I love your blog – it can be hard when you’re working hard on content and not getting much back, but it is important to remember that blogging is for you also, and there are a lot of silent readers out there who’d rather just garner something from a post and move on.

How exciting about the new job – I hope that works out for you! And I hope your dad has a wonderful birthday weekend.

    • Suzanne

I’ve discovered that there are a lot of silent readers – yes! It’s funny though cos sometimes it feels as though you’re just writing and things get lost in the ether. You know? Thank you for the new job good wishes and my dad’s birthday. It was a fab evening 🙂

  • Caroline

I really enjoy reading your blog, it’s so uplifting and honest.

  • Good luck with the social media job! That side of my work isn’t happening right now, but I’m hoping something else comes along soon.
Love that your son got you nail varnish for mother’s day and really love that your girls have been playing music together 🙂
I’m loving Broadchurch too and I loved Take That on Comic Relief and, yes, Saturday Night Takeaway is one of my favourite shows too! It’s really not ‘my’ sort o thing, yet I just love it! I’ve actually seen Take That twice – in 2009 with four of them and 2011 with Robbie too!

  • Claire

I regularly feel like that about my blog. Good luck with the new job. Love the sound of this kind of job. I’m behind we catastrophe but enjoying it.

  • Tracey Williams

Sounds very exciting about the social media job Suzanne, and I am sure you will be fab at it. Just goes to show we never know what is waiting for us around the next corner with jobs and blogs. Hope your dad has a wonderful 80th birthday, and good luck with the balloons x

  • Nicola Young

Love the new look blog Suzanne. Sometimes it’s hard to know whether to keep it up or not. Most of the time I just ramble away to myself anyway, so I’m used to it now!

As for that hour loss. Don’t get me started. Every year I find it harder and harder to deal with.

Yes I’m still struggling, even in this sunshine! Thankfully the husband did the early runs this morning so I could have a bit of a lie in. Much appreciated 🙂

  • Mum Reinvented

I’m one of the ones who reads posts and doesn’t comment. I tend to read blogs when I’m in bed on my kindle so it’s a bit of a pain to comment, I did love your recent post though as you know. Definitely rang true for me. That article is fab also, I certainly need to take inspiration from it for dealing with my stroppy 15 year old, she has been an absolute nightmare lately. Kids eh!

I loved the Take That Carpool Karaoke (and Love Actually), it was so good! Sounds like you have a brilliant weekend planned. Hope your dad has a lovely birthday x

  • Katrina McDonald

I’m so happy that your girls played and sang together. I love that music can bring siblings together. Great song too. Xx

  • Plutonium Sox

Hooray for an exciting new job! I’m working through your posts in the wrong order so I’m yet to read your pity party, but I’m glad you decided to carry on blogging. I think I always comment on your posts? I do miss some though when my inbox gets a bit out of hand and I don’t manage to read everything in there. Anyway, I love your blog so you’re not getting any pity from me.
    Nat.x

I love your blog Suzanne so I’m pleased you’ve been given the boost to carry on. Well done on the new job! Social media marketing is definitely something I’d like to move into more.
Broadchurch is fantastic isn’t it? I didn’t particularly enjoy the second season but this one has definitely pulled it back for me. xx

  • Kerri-Ann

What a lovely round up, love the nail polish, love the blog, love the not doing as much for your kids although that would be hard here! Good luck in the new job and wow broadchurch has me guessing each week! I hope you’ve had a lovely week X #littleloves

  • Jenny

I love your nail polish color it’s fab and that watch… hahaha Snuck in there you little fashionista. I feel the same about my blog at the moment and can really relate to your pity party post I am having one of those myself. My traffic is weird and it seems everyone is bored of my interiors, food, and family posts these days. I am worried I have lost their interest and struggle to find new ones to come love me again. Blogging is a funny thing that goes up and down doesn’t it? I haven’t found the answer to uplift mine but so glad you got what you needed for yours darling. I love you and your blog. You always have amazing things to share and say too! Keep it up glad you shared this week . So sorry for the late comment I am playing catch up on today’s and last weeks #littleloves. Better late than never I hope! Happy Weekend.

  • Shelly
